How to read these figures

  • Banco de la República rate (12.25%). The minimum rate at which the central bank lends to banks overnight. When it rises, CDT and loan rates usually rise, and the prices of existing bonds fall. What it is and how it affects you.
  • Inflation (6.29%). How much prices rose over the last twelve months. If your investment earns less than that, you lose purchasing power.
  • CDTs. The average rate banks pay on 180- and 360-day CDTs (certificates of deposit), as an effective annual rate. Use it as a reference in the CDT simulator.
  • TES. What the Colombian government pays at different terms. The gap between peso TES and UVR TES is roughly the inflation the market expects. What a TES is.
  • UVR. A unit of account that rises with inflation; it is used in mortgages and UVR TES. What the UVR is.
  • IBR. The Colombian interbank benchmark rate; many bonds and loans pay “IBR + a margin”.
  • US dollar (TRM). The official peso–dollar exchange rate certified each day by the Financial Superintendence.
